Welcome to
Kildoon Cottage
Playden

Who are we?

Individual attention is given to each and every little bean

We are an interesting group of little people.

We tend to build gardens, and cars, and whole cities (out of mud and play dough, of course), and specifically from our own imagination.

Our educators help align us... as, in, keep us in check. We can actually count and often spell...maybe even cook...

We are toilet trained. Ooh, that's a goodie.

And we grow into imperfect beings... the ones you love and cherish.

And, yes, we learn, we have manners, we are well trained, in all matters, including the possible poop situation.

We eat REALLY good food. (Some of which we have learnt to grow ourselves)

Our education model is based on both Traditional and Montessori teaching, being interactive, child focused, yet structured.

We rock, right on back to Mother Nature.

Enjoy your journey, with your little being, and help us all to create a Beautiful World.

This is a non-denominational Preschool. Everyone is welcome

Limited to 25 children...come on over!

Space is limited to 25 children between 2 and 5 years (give or take a few months either side).  Parents are another question....Be Nice.

One teacher and 2 assistants are onsite daily.

Kildoon Road is easily accessible from William Nicol, just above Bryanston High School.

Daily and Weekly Activities

Our Daily Routine

We encourage daily learning through supervised indoor and outdoor activities, including early morning free play, where children choose their activity.  This may include playdough, doll's corner, blocks, threading... different activities are offered daily.

Breakfast is served between 7:00 and 8:15, after which children are gathered together in all age groups for a morning ring, where they share stories, and engage with their teacher about their experiences, and reinforce the weekly Theme.

Manners are encouraged, with sharing and caring being a strong focus.  Listening and taking turns is promoted.

Hitting, biting and shouting is a no-no in our school.

Free play outdoors encourages responsibility for each other and selves.  Children clean up after messy play, and put away the toys they have utilised.

Hats and sunblock are compulsory during outdoor activities.

Fresh fruit and Elgin Iced Tea is provided daily.  We request a healthy snack be sent daily with your child, which is shared with their little friends. Not only does this encourage parent involvement, but promotes an interest in different foods. While we are aware of all children's special diets, we request that parents take note of Nut allergies.

Children gather their belongings, ready for hometime, and then listen to a daily story, read by their teacher.

The Lunch Bunch prepare for their cooked meal with a regular 'wee and wash', and sitting at the table, where Thanks are given for our food.

Individually marked mattresses are laid out for nap time.

Aftercare offers supervised freeplay, with tea and sandwiches / fruit / biscuits provided.

FAQ's

Are fees due, even while I am away, or my child is sick?

  • Yip.  Fees are due, monthly in advance.  You still pay your Eskom bills while away, don't you?

My child is not potty trained.  Can you help?

  • Of course!  We request you send in extra clothing, as well as nappies.  Your child will indicate when he is ready to be toilet trained.

Can my daughter bring a dummy or favourite teddy bear to school?

  • Yes, however she will only have access to it at nap time. No other toys will be allowed as they cause conflict amongst the children.

What is the notice period, should I have to move?

  • For simplicity, the year is split into 3 financial Terms.  This assists with payment, as well as notice.

How am I invoiced?

  • We run a program called Kidsoft.  You will receive an invoice on the 25th of each month.
  • This is to be paid in ADVANCE.  Adhoc services are paid in ARREARS.  Please bear this in mind when giving notice.
